NOTES ON MACHINE INPUT OUTPUT

[2]
STUDY NOTES FOR ALL COMPETITIVE EXAMS
TYPE I:
An arrangement machine, when given a
particular Input, rearranges it following a
particular rule in each step. The following is
the illustration of the input and the steps of
arrangement:
Input: 52 kaep 91 wons ezeerf 46 dloc 15
Step I : 15 52 kaep wons ezeerf 46 dloc 91
Step II: 15 46 kaep wons ezeerf dloc 52 91
Step III: 15 46 dloc kaep ezeerf wons 52 91
Step IV: 15 46 dloc ezeerf kaep wons 52 91
Step IV is the last step of the rearrangement.
As per rules followed in above steps, give
answer to following questions.
Input: 67 toh nus 19 tseb 83 eci 49
Q.1. How many steps would be needed to
complete the arrangement?
(1) Ten (2) Six
(3) Four (4) Seven
(5) None of these
Q.2. Which step number would be the
following output?
19 49 toh nus tseb eci 67 83.
(1) II (2) VI
(3) III (4) V
(5) None of these
Q.3. Which of the following would be the
step III?
MACHINE INPUT
In this chapter an “Input” is given, which could be alphabetical in nature i.e. made
up of words or numerical in nature or containing both. This ‘Input’ undergoes certain
process and gives an “Output”. We are asked to read and analyses the process done
by a machine and decipher the logic behind it. We have to solve the next problem,
given below, as per the deciphered logic and process.
Two types of questions are asked from this chapter.
1. Arrangement – In this type of questions arrangement is based on increasing
or decreasing order of number and sequence of words, letter according to the
alphabetical series etc.
2. Shifting – In this type of question all questions are based on interchanging position
of elements.
NOTE: The logic of arrangement could be….
1. Numbers – ascending, descending, etc.
2. Words – Alphabetical order, reverse alphabetical order, vowels and consonants
etc.
3. In mixed form – if numbers and words both are given in arrangement mostly
words are only related to next word and number to number.
4. It becomes very easy to solve such types of problems if we are able to understand
the logic behind the arrangement of the input.
5. Mostly, it can be easily understood by analysing last step i.e. final output. If we go
directly to the final step of an input we find that all numbers / words are arranged
systematically.
