Guwahati Railway Station 1st To Get ISO Certification In India

The Guwahati Railway Station has become the first ever railway station in the Indian Railways to get an ISO certification from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for “providing passenger amenities in a clean and green environment.”

Many types of ISO certification exist and the one received by Guwahati Railway Station is ISO-14001, the station’s certificate reads ISO 14001: 2015.

India Highest Recipient of Remittances At $79 billion in 2018: World Bank

As per the World Bank Report, India retained its position as the world’s top recipient of remittances with its diaspora sending a whopping USD 79 billion back home in 2018. India was followed by China (USD 67 billion) and Mexico (USD 36 billion). The Report was titled as ‘World Bank’s Migration and Development Brief’.

IIT-Madras Tops HRD’s National Ranking of Institutes

President Ram Nath Kovind has released the national ranking of higher institutes by the Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD) in New Delhi. Indian Institute of Technology Madras topped the rankings while the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore bagged the second rank followed by IIT Delhi.

Indo-Sri Lanka Joint Exercise Mitra Shakti VI Concludes

Started in 2013, exercise Mitra Shakti is in continuation of a series of joint exercises that is conducted annually as part of military diplomacy to enhance cooperation between the armies of India & Sri Lanka. The sixth edition of the joint military training exercise between the Indian Army and the Sri Lankan Army, Exercise Mitra Shakti concluded in Sri Lanka.

Graham Reid Named As Chief Coach of India Men’s Hockey Team

Hockey India named Graham Reid as the new chief coach of the India men’s hockey team. The 54-year-old will join the team in Bengaluru shortly for the on-going National Camp at Sports Authority of India. Reid has a decorated playing career as the defender and midfielder for the Australian National team and was part of the silver medal winning team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

IIM Bangalore bags top spot in NIRF Rankings 2019

IIM Bangalore (IIM-B) has bagged the top spot in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2019 under the Management category. IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A) bagged the second spot and IIM Calcutta on third. For the awards, the framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The President of India Ram Nath Kovind gave away the awards.

RBI Issues Norms For Banks To Set Up Currency Chests

The Reserve Bank of India to set up new currency chests for banks, which include a minimum area of 1,500 square feet for strong room. The new chests should have a processing a capacity of 6.6 lakh pieces of banknotes per day. The currency chests should have CBL of Rs 1,000 crore, subject to ground realities and reasonable restrictions, at the discretion of the Reserve Bank.

INS Shakti, INS Kolkata to take part in Chinese Navys 70th anniversary celebrations

The two ships are scheduled to visit Chinese port of Qingdao from 21 to 26 April to participate in an International Fleet Review to celebrate the 70th anniversary of People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy. INS Kolkata is the lead ship of the Kolkata-class stealth guided-missile destroyers of the Indian Navy. INS Shakti is tanker and supply ship. Over 60 countries would join the commemorative event for the PLA Navy’s 70th founding anniversary on April 23.

HDFC Bank to raise up to Rs.50,000 crore by issuing bonds

Private lender HDFC Bank said it is planning to raise up to Rs.50,000 crore this fiscal by issuing bonds on private placement basis. It will raise funds by issuing perpetual debt instruments [part of additional tier I capital], tier II capital bonds and long-term bonds [financing of infrastructure and affordable housing] up to a total amount of Rs.50,000 crore in the period of next 12 months through private placement mode. The bank would consider the proposal on April 20.

Kirstjen Nielsen resigns as Homeland Security Secretary

Kirstjen Nielsen, Homeland Security Secretary, resigned her position on 7th April. Ms.Nielsen will, however, stay on until April 10. Kevin McAleenan, the current U.S. Customs, and Border Protection Commissioner will take charge as Acting Homeland Security Secretary. Ms. Nielson, who has had a rocky working relationship with President Donald Trump, handed in her resignation at a time when there were growing signs of division within the administration over how to handle the swelling numbers at the U.S.-Mexico border.

World Homoeopathy Day: 10th April

The World Homoeopathy Day 2019 will be celebrated across the world on April 10 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the founder of Homoeopathy, Dr Christian Fredrich Samuel Hahnemann.  The Union Ministry of AYUSH organised a two-day convention at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
