Vinesh wins gold in 53kg at Poland Open Wrestling Tournament

Star India wrestler Vinesh Phogat has bagged her third consecutive gold in women’s 53kg category after winning the Poland Open wrestling tournament in Warsaw.

The 24-year-old prevailed 3-2 over local wrestler Roksana in the final of the competition.

Vinesh had earlier beaten Sofia Mattson of Sweden, the Rio Olympics bronze medallist, in the quarterfinals of this international tournament.

The top Indian woman wrestler had stood atop the podium at Grand Prix of Spain and at the Yasar Dogu International at Istanbul, Turkey last month.

AP Home Minister flags off riot control vehicle ‘Vajra’

Arunachal Pradesh State Home Minister Bamang Felix flagged off Five Anti-Riot police vehicle. It is known as ‘Vajra’, from Police Headquarter in Itanagar. This is the first set of anti-riot vehicles introduced in the state police department.

 Vajra – Features
Vajra is a protected vehicle used by the police forces during riots.
The vehicles are equipped with all modern instruments including multi-tube shell launchers in front and rear to lob tear gas.
These vehicles have quick response automatic multi-barrel launchers for tear gas, with a capacity of 12 persons and a battery backup for long hours stuck in the rioting crowd.
This initiative is a step towards the total modernization of the state Police department.

Aamir Khan launches Mission Shakti sports initiative in Maharashtra

Actor Aamir Khan on Sunday attended the launch function of Mission Shakti, an initiative by Maharashtra minister Sudhir Mungantiwar to train athletes from Chandrapur and Gadchiroli for international events like the Olympics

Among those present at the function in Ballarpur here was state sports minister Ashish Shelar.

“I don’t remember much that I learnt in school except sports. It teaches us how to complete tasks through teamwork. It trains us to handle the situation during ups and downs,” Khan told the gathering.

Khan also broke into a song mid-speech to motivate the athletes attending the programme. He felicitated a team of tribal mountaineers from here who had recently scaled Mount Everest as part of Mission Shaurya.

Mungantiwar said youth from Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, through Mission Shakti, will get a chance to bring laurels to India in events like the Olympics in future.

Udaipur to host India’s Largest Education Brainstorm

The 3rd edition of India’s largest education brainstorming event, the ScooNews Global Educators Fest (SGEF) will be held on August 09 and 10  in the city of lakes, Udaipur. It will bring together over 500 educators to discuss the way towards establishing India as the next global education powerhouse. Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar of Udaipur Royalty is the patron of this year’s edition. “We are delighted to be part of The Educators Fest 2019. Dale Steyn retires from Test cricket

South African bowler Dale Steyn has announced his retirement from Test cricket. Dale Steyn has played 93 Tests for South Africa, finishing with 439 wickets, the most in the long format by a south african bowler. His strike-rate of 42.3 balls per wicket is the best of anyone with more than 200 Test wickets. Steyn will be available to play for South Africa in One-Day and T20 International series.

Mohali gets first 3-D traffic signal

In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, Mohali traffic police have launched 3-D Smart Traffic Signal devised by the students of a Chandigarh university.

The wireless system, called ‘Intelights’, has been installed at the traffic crossing near the Airport Road, on a pilot project basis, and will regulate traffic signals with a smart bird’s eye view wireless sensor system.

The system, which was devised by the students over three years of intensive research, was in the test trial phase for the last eight months before its final launch. The team worked to develop one-of-its-kind, real-time solution for defending ‘Green Corridors’ for ambulances while controlling the movement of vehicles on roads.

2nd All India Annual Conference of IIS Officers

The 2nd All India Annual Conference of Indian Information Service Officers was held in New Delhi. In his message, Union I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar conveyed his message to the delegates of the Conference wherein he highlighted the importance of feedback along with communicating the programmes and policies of government, stating that the IIS Officers are the eyes and ears of the government. The Conference was organized with a view to attain greater integration of all Media Units under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in order to further amplify government communication. A Performance Review of Media Units under the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting was also conducted during the Conference.

6th August is observed as Hiroshima Day

Hiroshima Day commemorates the day in August 1945 when an atomic bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, followed a few days later by another dropped on the city of Nagasaki.

This year is the 74th Anniversary of Hiroshima Day.  On this day  let us continue to advocate, pray and work for a ban on all nuclear weapons and an end to war and violence.  May leaders of all nations be committed to dialogue and justice as ways that lead to peace and development.

U.S. labels China a ‘currency manipulator’

The United States has officially labeled China a “currency manipulator”. The US has accused China of using yuan to gain “unfair competitive advantage” in trade.

The US took the action as Beijing has allowed its yuan to fall below the politically sensitive level of “seven” to the U.S. dollar for the first time in 11 years.

Ravichandran Ashwin named “PCA Player of the Month”

Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been named as Professional Cricketers Association’s Player of the month of July 2019. He has been named for his consistent performances in the county championships as he hit 197 runs and picked up 23 wickets from just 3 matches for Nottinghamshire.

R Ashwin represented Nottinghamshire and played 3 matches for them before heading to Tamil Nadu Premier League T20 competition.
