IMF approves USD 6 billion loan for cash-strapped Pakistan

The IMF on Wednesday approved a USD 6 billion loan over a period of three years for cash-strapped Pakistan, aimed at returning sustainable growth to the country’s fragile economy and improving the standards of living. Pakistan’s finance ministry approached the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in August 2018 for a bailout package when the Imran Khan government took over.

The 34th edition of the National level sailing championship began in Telengana

The 34th edition of the National level sailing championship, began in Telangana on 2 July. It was inaugurated by the Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan. It will be at the Hussain Sagar Lake. The event will take place between July 2 till July 7. The Championship aims to place the State into the world sailing map. The State currently have three participants who previously were Asian medalists.

Reliance jio has launched “Digital Udaan” in partnership with Facebook

Reliance Jio has launched a new digital literacy programme, aimed at first time internet users who are using the connected internet ecosystem and apps for the very first time. The programme, which will primarily focus on people using JioPhone and make use of Facebook and its ecosystem to demonstrate the advantages of connectivity and information availability. The Jio Digital Udaan programme is being launched across 200 locations in 13 states, with over 7,000 locations in India earmarked for future release. As part of the initiative, Facebook will handle the the content.

As the managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde is already one of the world’s most powerful women. But now she’s poised to assume even more influence, European leaders nominated Lagarde to become the next president of the European Central Bank.

B Harideesh Kumar has been appointed as Director of IBPS

B Harideesh Kumar has been appointed as director of Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) for a period of three years. He took charge recently. Earlier, he was Executive Director of Canara Bank. Kumar hails from Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. He is a Post Graduate with a Degree in Law and started his banking career with Vijaya Bank in the year 1978.

A K Mishra has been appointed as Additional Director of Jammu and Kashmir Bank

The Reserve Bank of India has appointed its former executive director A K Misra as additional director on the board of Jammu and Kashmir Bank (J&K Bank), the lender said. Misra shall hold the office for a period of two years up to July 2, 2021 or till further orders, whichever is earlier, a spokesman of the bank said on Thursday.

India has ranked 86th in Henley Passport Index 2019

As per the Henley Passport Index 2019 Japan and Singapore have the world’s most powerful passports. Both the countries secured top position out of 199 countries, South Korea now sits in second place on the index along with Finland and Germany, Earlier in 2018 rankings India was on 79th position and now secured 86th.   India’s mobility score is 58 that mean that Indian passport holders can access 58 countries around the world without a prior visa.

Hima Das bags Gold in women’s 200m sprint at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix 2019

Indian sprinter Hima Das won the women’s 200m gold, while national record holder shot putter Tajinder Pal Singh Toor bagged a bronze at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix in Poland. Hima, the world junior champion and national record holder in 400m who has been struggling with a back problem for the past few months, clocked 23.65s on her way to the 200m gold. This was Hima’s first competitive 200m race of the year. She has a personal best of 23.10s, which she clocked last year.

China will provide 2500 metric tons of rice Bangladesh Rohingyas Refugees

Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang yesterday assured that China would persuade Myanmar to resolve the Rohingya crisis through bilateral discussions. He gave the assurance during a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. China will provide 2500 metric tons of rice to Rohingya Refugees.
