India-Sri Lanka joint exercise “MITRA SHAKTI” begins

The 7th edition of exercise India-Sri Lanka joint exercise “MITRA SHAKTI” begins at Aundh Military Station, Pune. The bilateral exercise also signifies the strength of India-Sri Lanka relations in the field of military cooperation and engagement. It aims to build and promote positive relations between armies of both the countries for counter-terrorism operations in urban and rural environment.

Soma Roy Burman becomes new Controller General of Accounts

The government on Sunday said it has appointed Soma Roy Burman, a 1986-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service Officer, as the new Controller General of Accounts (CGA). She is the 24th CGA and the seventh woman to hold this coveted position. She has replaced J P S Chawla.Previously Burman served as Additional Controller General of Accounts in the office of the CGA.

2nd December: International Day for Abolition of Slavery

Every year 2 December is observed as International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, across the world. The yearly event is organized by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and was first celebrated in 1986. The day focuses on eradication of contemporary forms of slavery.

Saudi Arabia takes over G20 Presidency from Japan

Saudi Arabia became the first Arab nation on Sunday to take over the G20 presidency as it seeks to bounce back onto the world stage following global uproar over its human rights record. The G20 presidency, which Saudi Arabia has taken over from Japan, will host world leaders for a global summit in its capital Riyadh in 2020.

BSF Celebrated its Raising Day

Border Security Force celebrated its 55th Raising Day in New Delhi. MoS of Home Affairs Nityanand Rai attended the event. Rai reviewed the passing out parade of BSF. The BSF was raised in 1965 with the specific purpose of manning Indian borders as the ‘First Line of Defence’ against infiltration, smuggling, and military assault.

First India – Japan 2+2 Foreign Ministerial Meeting held in New Delhi

India and Japan held their first ever Foreign and Defence Ministerial Dialogue (2+2) in New Delhi. This India-Japan ministerial meeting comes ahead of annual summit of two prime ministers scheduled to be held in Guwahati, Assam in December 2019. India has a similar ‘ministerial level 2+2’ dialogue with the USA as well. Indian delegation was led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.

South Asian Games begins in Kathmandu

On December 1, 2019, the President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari opened the South Asian Games in Kathmandu. Around 487 athletes are participating from India. The event is scheduled to be conducted for 10 days. Currently there are eight members in the event. It includes India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Maldives. The governing body of the event is South Asia Olympic Council.

Nagaland CM inaugurates Multi Media Exhibition

For the first time in the history of Hornbill festival, Bureau of Outreach & Communication, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is organising a Multi Media Exhibition commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio officially inaugurated the Multi Media Exhibition yesterday at World War II museum, Kisama in Nagaland.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has recently recognized the Jannayak Janta Party as a state party

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has recently recognized the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) as state party of Haryana and alloted the symbol of “key” for the party. The JJP was formed in December 2018 by a breakaway faction of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) & won 10 seats in the recently-held Haryana Assembly elections and formed the government with the BJP.

Dushyant Chautala is the chief of Jannayak Janta Party.

 

Condition to become a state party

A party should win minimum three percent of the total number of seats or a minimum of three seats in the Legislative Assembly. A party should win at least one seat in the Lok Sabha for every 25 seats.

Yasuhiro Nakasone (101) has passed away at Tokyo on 29th November 2019

In Japan, Yasuhiro Nakasone (101) has passed away at Tokyo on 29th November 2019. He was one of the longest-reigning Prime Ministers and known for his friendship with Ronald Reagan. He also broke an unwritten rule on limiting the annual defence budget to 1% of Gross National Product (GNP). In 1983, he became the first Japanese Premier to officially visit South Korea & mended fences with a country that Japan had brutally colonized from 1910 to 1945.
