Air Marshal HS Arora appointed new IAF Vice Chief

Air Marshal HS Arora has been appointed as the Vice Chief of Indian Air Force. He will succeed Air Marshal RKS Bhadauria who will take over as the Chief of Air Staff. Air Marshal Arora is currently heading the Gandhinagar headquartered South Western Air Command of the Air Force. He was also deputed as Defence Attache at the Embassy of India, Bangkok, Thailand from 2006 to 2009.

In another re-shuffle, Air Marshal B Suresh has been appointed as Western Air Commander of the Air Force, in New Delhi. Suresh will succeed Kargil war hero Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar.

Cochin International Airport wins award for passenger satisfaction

Airport Council International has recognised Cochin International Airport Limited as the best airport in terms of services offered to passengers. As per the annual Airport Service Quality survey conducted by the ACI, CIAL was ranked amongst the best airports in the 5-15 million category in the Asia Pacific region for the year 2018.

The award was presented to the authorities of Cochin International Airport at the second Annual ACI Customer Experience Global Summit held at Bali, Indonesia.

ACI ASQ survey is world-renowned and established airport service quality benchmarking programme measuring passengers’ satisfaction.

Rupa Gurunath appointed as first woman president of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association

Rupa Gurunath was appointed as the first woman president of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) at the 87th Annual General Meeting of TNCA in Chennai, TamilNadu. With this appointment, she also became the first woman to head a state-level cricket body in the country.

Infosys has won the prestigious United Nations Global Climate Action Award

Infosys has won the prestigious United Nations Global Climate Action Award in the ‘Climate Neutral Now’ category. With this feat, Infosys has become the only corporate from India to earn the recognition for its efforts to combat climate change. The award will be presented to Infosys at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Santiago, Chile on December 2019.

The mascot 'Tikki Mausi' has been launched by the Odisha government

The mascot ‘Tikki Mausi’ has been launched by the Odisha government in collaboration with UNICEF to spread awareness about child and woman’s nutrition . The mascot has been named as ‘Tikki Mausi’ in reference to the second mother of a child. The mascot resembles a typical friendly neighbourhood aunty that has words of advice for everyone starting from mothers to children and adolescents.

Venu Madhav, the well-known Telugu comedian and actor has passed away in Secunderabad

Venu Madhav (51), the well-known Telugu comedian and actor, has passed away in Secunderabad on  25th September 2019. He started as a mimicry artiste and forayed into movies. His filmography had over 170 movies in Telugu. Other than Telugu films, he even acted a few Tamil films. The 2016 film “Dr Paramanandaiah’s Students Gang”  remains his last release.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has inked an agreement with IIT-Delhi

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has inked an agreement with IIT-Delhi for cooperation in research, education and technology developments in science and other disciplines. This collaboration will also facilitate access to each other’s libraries and central research facilities to intensify  joint research projects and other related academic activities.

As per latest IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking 2019 (WDCR), India has been ranked at 44th position in terms of digital competitiveness in the world as the country has made improvement in terms of knowledge and future readiness to adopt and explore digital technologies. The ranking measures the capacity and readiness of 63 nations to adopt and explore digital technologies as a key driver for economic transformation in business, government and wider society .

Italian journalist Paolo Borrometi has won the prestigious 2019 Peter Mackler Award

Italian journalist Paolo Borrometi, who was assaulted over his coverage of mafia activity in Sicily and now living under police protection, has won the prestigious 2019 Peter Mackler Award for Courageous and Ethical Journalism at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism.
