Corporation Bank launches ‘Corp SME Suvidha’ for MSMEs

Corporation Bank has launched ‘Corp SME Suvidha’, a product for GST-registered MSMEs. The product has been designed as part of the bank’s efforts to provide the best products to the MSME sector. PV Bharathi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation bank, launched the product in Mangaluru recently.

Naveen Patnaik set for fifth term as Odisha CM

Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) headed by incumbent Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is all set to form a government for a fifth consecutive term. The new Cabinet is likely to be sworn-in on 27th May.

SCO Meeting Of Council Of Foreign Ministers Held In Bishkek

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj represented India in the meeting of Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic. During the meet, she discussed several pressing issues including the threat of terrorism are expected to be discussed. Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi also attended the meeting.

India bags 57 medals at India Open International tournament

India bags a total of 57 medals including 12 Gold, 18 Silver and 27 Bronze at India Open International Boxing tournament in Guwahati. MC Mary Kom, Shiva Thapa, L Sarita Devi, and Naman Tanwar won gold in their respective finals. The London Olympic bronze medallist blew away the challenge of Vanlal Duati in a facile 5-0 win.

MoU Signed Between DBT And DAE On Cancer Research

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under Ministry of Science and Technology and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), under Prime Minister of India, has signed an MoU for supporting joint collaborative research programmes in the area of Cancer. The DAE was represented by its Tata Memorial Centre, which also functions as coordinating centre on behalf of The National Cancer Grid of India.

German payments company Wirecard teams up with India to issue PAN cards

German payments company Wirecard would work with India to simplify the process of issuing tax identity cards required to open bank accounts, transfer money or complete business transactions. The deal, with state company UTI Infrastructure Technology and Financial Services, seeks to widen the distribution of so-called PAN cards in India of 1.3 billion where most people still live and work in the informal economy.

Google faces indexing issues, displays old Search results

Google experienced some indexing issues which led to a few users seeing old links on Search results. Google didn’t reveal the cause of the issue but it has been resolved. Notably, Google had faced similar indexing issues twice in April, once for Search and the other time for News.

Paytm Payments Bank turns profitable in 2nd year with 19cr profit

Paytm Payments Bank announced it has turned profitable within its second year of operations, posting a 19-crore profit for the financial year 2018-19. It had reported a ₹20.7-crore loss for the financial year 2017-18. Paytm Payments Bank formally began operations in 2017 and claims to have over 19% of mobile banking transactions’ market share as of March 2019.

US says Chinese made drones could be giving spy agencies

The Department of Homeland Security, Washington has warned that Chinese-made drones could be giving spy agencies in Beijing unfettered access to stolen data. It also said that the flagging drones built in China as a potential risk to an organisation’s information. The U.S. government has strong concerns about any technology product that takes American data into the territory of an authoritarian State that permits its intelligence services to have unfettered access to that data or otherwise abuses that access.

U.S. Postal Service to test self driving trucks to move mail across state lines

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is experimenting with self-driving trucks to move mail across state lines. The USPS has partnered with San Diego-based TuSimple on a two-week pilot program focusing solely on a 1,000-mile route between Dallas and Phoenix.

India's crude oil imports jump 14% in April to 6-month high

India’s crude oil imports jumped 14% year-on-year in April to 19.72 million tonnes, the highest since October 2018. Oil imports from Iran had fallen 57% year-on-year in April after waiver from US sanctions on Iran ended recently. The government had earlier this month it will decide on Iranian oil imports post elections.

ISRO flagged off the shipment of Indias largest liquid Hydrogen storage tank

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Secretary, DOS & Chairman, Dr.K Sivan, flagged off the shipment of India’s largest liquid Hydrogen storage tank at VRV Asia Pacific production plant at Sri City in Chittoor district. The event stands out as a typical example for ISRO-Industry cooperation for realizing import substitutes indigenously.

Pakistan successfully testfired Shaheen-II

Pakistan has successfully test-fired a land-based ballistic missile named ‘Shaheen-II’ on 21st May 2019. The impact point of the missile was in the Arabian Sea. Shaheen-II is an intermediate-range nuclear-capable ballistic missile which could 2,000 km (1,250 miles). The test was conducted to ensure operational readiness of the Pakistan Army’s Strategic Forces Command.

PSG chief Nasser Al-Khelaifi charged with athletics corruption

A French judge has charged the president of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) football club, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, with corruption over Qatari bids to host the world athletics championships 2019. Two payments totalling $3.5m (£2.8m), made in 2011, are under scrutiny. London won the bidding to host the championships in 2017, but Qatar is hosting this year’s championships in September – October.

Reliance Capital to sell its stake in mutual funds biz for Rs 6,000 crore

Anil Ambani’s Reliance Capital will exit mutual fund business by selling its stake in Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management to Japanese partner Nippon Life Insurance. Reliance Capital will sell 32.12% stake to Nippon Life for  4,520 crore, taking the latter’s shareholding to 75%. It will offer its remaining 10.76% stake to other investors for  1,480 crore.
