India has got its first National Essential Diagnostics List (NEDL) finalised by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) which aims to bridge the current regulatory system’s gap that do not cover all the medical devices and in-vitro diagnostic device (IVD). The current system is equipped to manage only the few notified devices. With this, India has become the first country to compile such a list that would provide guidance to the government for deciding the kind of diagnostic tests that different healthcare facilities in villages and remote areas require.
President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the underground Bunker Museum at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai. The 15,000 square feet underground bunker museum has virtual reality booths in which visitors can “time travel” to the 19th century, a state government official said. The bunker was created in the 19th century to fire cannons at approaching enemy ships. Another section depicts the history of Raj Bhavan. The museum will be opened for the general public with an online booking facility later this year.
The Indian Navy is to host the multilateral naval exercise named ‘MILAN‘ for the year 2020 in the month of March. The announcement for this exercise was made by Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) at the INS(Indian Navy Ship) Circars Parade Ground in the ENC on the occasion of 73rd Independence day.
The Supreme Court gave the clearance for the decks for the Chardham highway project, which will connect four holy places in the hills of Uttarakhand through 900-km all-weather roads, The Chardham project intends to connect four towns of the hilly state — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath — by all-weather roads.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal dedicated the first-ever CNG fuelling station to the state at Chowkidingi in Dibrugarh. Sonowal said that to make Assam free from air pollution and to promote the use of clean and green fuel, State government is preparing a road map for setting up CNG fuelling station in all districts of the state. He also said that since vehicular emissions take a toll on the health of the people, State government is working sincerely to promote the use of compressed natural gas in the state.
In Uttar Pradesh, state government will set up Atal Bihari Vajpayee residential schools for children of labourers in all 18 divisions of state. Chief Minister of state Yogi Adityanath announced many projects in state in remembrance of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee including a memorial in Bateshwar, the former prime minister’s native village in Agra.
The 28th session of BASIC (Brazil, South Africa, India, and China) Ministerial meeting 2019 on Climate Change was held in Sao Paulo, Brazil from. Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar represented India for this meeting. This comes ahead of United Nations Framework for Climate Change (UNFCC) Conference of Parties (COP-25) meet scheduled to be held in Santiago, Chile from 2 – 13 December 2019.
Top Indian sprinters Hima Das and Mohammad Anas won a gold each in women’s and men’s 300m races respectively at the Athleticky Mitink Reiter event in Czech Republic. This was Hima’s sixth gold in European races since July 2. Her last win was on July 20 when she clinched a gold in her pet 400m event at Nove Mesto in Czech Republic.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is working to review the Defence Procurement Procedure to speed up procurement and incorporate suitable changes in order to strengthen the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The committee, to be chaired by Apurva Chandra, has been given six months to submit its recommendations. The committee, will have 11 other members, all of them above or equivalent to the rank of a joint secretary or a Major General.
A new book titled ‘Kashmir’s Untold Story: Declassified’, which reveals amazing insights about the history of Jammu and Kashmir. The book has been written by filmmaker Iqbal Chand Malhotra and defence analyst Maroof Raza. The book narrates the complete picture of the state from the time of its political and geographic influence under Maharaja Gulab Singh to the present-day and Government of India’s policy towards the state, right from 1889, when it first imposed central rule and dispossessed the rule of the then Maharaja.
