The Kerala state government has invoked article 131 to challenge the CAA act in the Supreme Court. This means that the apex court will have to treat the case as a fresh one and not club it with the other anti-CAA petitions.

What is Article 131?

The Supreme Court has three kinds of jurisdictions: original, appellate and advisory.

Under its advisory jurisdiction, the President has the power to seek an opinion from the apex court under Article 143 of the Constitution.

Under its appellate jurisdiction, the Supreme Court hears appeals from lower courts.

On behalf of the Government of India, the Indian Embassy in the capital city of East African island country Madagascar, Antananarivo has handed over 100,000 academic textbooks for the development of higher education and research on Tuesday, 14th January 2020.

The books handed over to Madagascar’s Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research by Abhay Kumar (Indian Ambassador) at an event organized at the Ministry headquarters are published by an autonomous organization of Government of India, the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
