Anahat Singh, Neel Joshi won titles at Dutch Junior Open tournament

Two Indian players managed to win titles while another finished as runner-up on the final day of the Dutch Junior Open squash tournament in Amsterdam on Sunday.

Anahat Singh won the girls’ U13 title after a gritty performance in the final while Neel Joshi captured the boys’ U17 title.

Paarth Ambani finished with a silver medal after losing his final of boys’ U15 category.

India will host ISSF World Cup 2020

India will be hosting next year’s International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Combined World Cup from March 15-26 in New Delhi.

The dates were finalized after the ISSF’s approval Monday. The Combined World Cup involves events in rifle, pistol and shotgun.

The last edition of ISSF was held in Munich, Germany

RBI fines Union Bank, SBI for flouting norms

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has penalized State Bank of India and Union Bank of India for violating certain regulatory guidelines.

SBI was fined 7 crore for non-compliance with the directions issued by the RBI on Income Recognition and Asset Classification (IRAC) norms.

The central bank also imposed a 10-lakh fine on Union Bank for non-compliance with the directions on the cyber security framework in banks issued by the RBI.

Kalraj Mishra appointed Himachal Pradesh Governor

Senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra was appointed as Governor of Himachal Pradesh on July 15, 2019. He replaced Acharya Devvrat who has been transferred and appointed as Governor of Gujarat. A press release issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan said that appointments of Mr. Mishra and Mr. Devvrat will come into effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.

Lok Sabha passes NIA (Amendment) Bill 2019: Know important features

The Lok Sabha passes The National Investigative Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2019 on July 15, 2019. Special powers have been given to the officers of NIA through this amendment bill. This bill mandates the setting up of Special Courts for NIA. The bill was passed by Lok Sabha after detailed discussion by Home Minister Amit Shah in the house.

World Bank offer $250 million to Kerala for disaster management

In an announcement on Monday, World Bank said it would offer a loan of $250 million to the Kerala Government for the Resilient Kerala project, aimed at enhancing the state’s resilience against the impacts of natural disasters and climate change in the wake of last year’s floods.

The announcement was made during “Rebuild Kerala: Development partners’ conclave,” a meeting of various funding agencies for rebuilding flood-ravaged Kerala.

Sharath Kamal voted IOC Sportsperson of the Year

Sharath Kamal was voted the Sportsperson of the Year in the annual Indian Oil Sports Conclave. The other nominees were cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara, Grandmaster B Adhiban, hockey player Simranjeet Singh and table tennis player Manika Batra.

‘Nagarkirtan’ wins big at SAARC film fest

Director Kaushik Ganguly’s Bengali outing Nagarkirtan, has won big at prestigious 2019’s SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) film festival. The movie was honoured with ‘Best Feature Film’, ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Original Score’ awards.

SAARC film fest is held by SAARC Cultural Centre. This year is 9th edition of SAARC film fest. It took place in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

UN Report: Over 820 million people suffering from hunger

More than 820 million people worldwide are still going hungry, according to a UN report that says reaching the target of zero hunger by 2030 is “an immense challenge”.

The report is from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the UN Children’s Fund (Unicef), the World Food Programme and the World Health Organization.

The report is part of tracking progress towards Sustainable Development Goal to Zero Hunger, which aims to end hunger, promote food security and end all forms of malnutrition by 2030.

Kiran More appointed USA cricket team’s interim coach

Former India stumper Kiran More, who was appointed USA’s director of cricket last month, will take the additional responsibility of coaching the senior national team on an interim basis. He will replace the head coach Pubudu Dassanayake.
