India’s first dolphin research centre will be laid in Patna University

Around eight years after it was approved, the foundation stone of India’s first dolphin research centre will be laid in Patna, Bihar in October. In 2013, the planning commission sanctioned Rs 28.06 crore for the NDRC. Later, in 2014, the state government also released Rs 18.16 crore to the Infrastructure Development Authority.

12th July is observed as Malala Day

On July 12, 2013, Malala Yousafzai, a sixteen-year-old Pakistani girl engaged in the promotion of women’s education, delivered an impassioned speech at the United Nations (UN) headquarters on the need for gender equality in education. The address saw several rounds of standing ovations for the teenager and the day, July 12, which is also her birthday, was soon declared by the UN as Malala Day in honour of the young activist.

19th Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers Meeting was held in London

External Affairs minister (EAM) S Jaishankar will attend the 19th Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ Meeting in London today. The EAM is likely to meet his British counterpart Jeremey Hunt among other foreign ministers during the conference. The conclave, which will be held at the Commonwealth’s headquarters in Marlborough House, will see the participation of foreign ministers from different Commonwealth countries, including Pakistan.

Rajghat TPS will officially shut down and turned into a solar park

Delhi cabinet on Thursday decided that Rajghat thermal power plant will be officially shut and turned into a solar park. Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said 5,000KW of solar power will be produced at the 45-acre plant site.

Soumendranath Kundu passed away

Former Bengal and Railways leg-spinner Soumendranath Kundu passed away here on Thursday. He was 77. Kundu took 127 wickets in 30 First Class matches between 1958-59 and 1968-69. This included 13 five-wicket hauls, including his personal best of eight for 104. He also took 10 wickets in a match thrice. Kundu was conferred the CAB Kartick Bose Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013-14.

Akshay Kumar is the only Indian features in Forbes Highest-paid Celebrities 2019 list

Akshay Kumar has become the only Indian to feature in Forbes’ list of World’s Highest-Paid Celebrities of 2019. The actor ranks 33rd on the coveted list, which is topped by hitmaker Taylor Swift. The magazine calls Akshay “Bollywood’s top-earning star”, with an earning of at least 5-10 million USD (Rs 35-70 crore) per film.

Flipkart will launch co-branded credit card in partnership with Axis Bank

Flipkart is getting in on the co-branded credit card game with the launch of its first credit card in partnership with Axis Bank and Mastercard. Although this is the first co-branded card for the e-retailer, Flipkart had earlier partnered with Axis Bank back in 2016 for the launch of the Axis Bank Buzz credit card, which offers 5 percent discount on Flipkart purchases and other benefits. The Flipkart-Axis Bank Credit Card will be offered to select users in July and it will expand to all over the coming weeks.

TVS Motor has launched India’s first Ethanol based motorcycle

TVS Motor Company launched India’s first ethanol-based motorcycle on Friday in line with the government’s initiative to opt for green and sustainable future mobility solutions. Among those present on the occasion were Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Jairam Gadkari and CEO of NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant.

Film Divisions launch KSHITIJ IN Mumbai

Film Divisions launch KSHITIJ, a documentary film club in Mumbai.  An acclaimed documentary film “Secret Life of Frogs” by Ajay and Vijay Bedi screened as the inaugural film. The Public screenings will begin at 5:30 PM on the second and fourth Friday of every month. The screenings will be held at Films Division Complex.

2019 Himalayan states conclave will held in Mussoorie

A conclave to deliberate on the problems faced by Himalayan states will be held in the queen of hills on July 28.Being held in Uttarakhand for the first time, it will be attended by the chief ministers of all Himalayan states besides administrators and experts. States to attend the conclave include Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur.
