Gaurvi Singhvi has become the World’s youngest open water swimmer to cross the English Channel in 13 hours 26 minutes

Gaurvi Singhvi (16) from Udaipur has made India proud by becoming the world’s youngest open water swimmer to cross the English Channel in 13 hours and 26 minutes last month. Starting from Samphire Hoe beach in England at 3 a.m. on August 23, Gaurvi reached Cap Gris-Nez in France by 4.28 p.m.

P.K.Mishra has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister

Pramod Kumar Mishra has been appointed as the new Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while former Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha is new Principal Advisor, the government said on Wednesday. Mishra (71), a retired 1972-bath Gujarat cadre IAS officer, took over his new assignment. Mishra was the additional principal secretary to the prime minister and was holding the rank of a Cabinet minister. He succeeds Nripendra Misra who stepped down recently.

INS Khanderi to be commissioned into the Indian Navy

India’s 2nd Scorpene-class submarine, INS Khanderi will be commissioned into the Indian Navy by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The conventional diesel-electric submarine has been manufactured by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd in Mumbai.The first Scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari was commissioned into the Indian Navy in December 2017.

Tamil Nadu has the lowest consumption of iodised salt in India as per the Iodine Survey 2018-2019

Tamil Nadu has the lowest consumption of iodised salt despite being the third biggest producer of salt in the country, according to a first-of-its-kind national survey to measure the coverage of iodised salt. The five worst performers were Tamil Nadu (61.9%), Andhra Pradesh (63.9%), Rajasthan (65.5%), Odisha (65.8%) and Jharkhand (68.8%).

Gujarat Government has slashed traffic violation fines under MV Act

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Gujarat government on Tuesday announced a drastic cut in the penalties for traffic violations even as the Centre is justifying the steep fine amounts under the amended Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. In some cases, the reduction in the State is as steep as 1,000 from 10,000.

Narendra Modi has launched the National Animal Disease Control Programme(NADCP) in Mathura

Taking a step closer towards realising the electoral promise of doubling farm income by 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to launch the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP) for eradicating the foot and mouth disease and brucellosis in livestock. The project, which will cost ₹12,652 crores for a period of five years till 2024, will be funded entirely by the government. The programme, to be launched in Mathura, aims to control the livestock diseases by 2025 and eradicate these by 2030.

IDBI to launch co-branded credit card with LIC

The Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI Bank) and Life Insurance Corporation of India Credit Cards Services (LIC CSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of LIC, will launch a co-branded credit card, which will be marketed to customers, agents, and employees of the corporation and its subsidiaries.

. 24th World Energy Congress was held in Abu Dhabi

The 24th World Energy Congress will commence in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates. The four-day World Energy Congress aims to bring together international energy stakeholders, including governments, private and state corporations, academia and media. With over 15,000 participants expected, the Congress is set to welcome over 250 high-level speakers, 72 Ministers, 500 CEOs, 1000 media persons with 40,000 square-metre exhibition space that will cover the entire energy spectrum.

Daniel Zhang has been appointed as the chairman of Alibaba group

Chinese e-tailer Alibaba Group’s Chief Executive Daniel Zhang will be the new chairman, succeeding its co-founder Jack Ma from September 2019, said the global firm on Monday. “Ma will continue as the executive chairman of the company over the next 12 months to ensure a smooth transition to Zhang,” a statement from Alibaba said.

Savarkar: Echoes from a forgotten past, 1883-1924 book describes the life of freedom fighter and Philosopher Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. He was popularly known as Veer Savarkar. The first volume of the two-volume series covers the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (Veer Savarkar). It expresses and explains the incidents from his birth in 1883 to his conditional release to Ratnagiri in 1924. The uniqueness of the new book is the historian Vikram Sampath brought out the often missed aspects of politician Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s life and times.
