MS Dhoni becomes the 2nd Indian player to reach 350 game mark in ODI

MS Dhoni became the only second Indian player to reach the 350-game mark in One-Day International cricket (ODI). The first Indian to set the record was Sachin Tendulkar. Dhoni led India from 2007 to 2017. Under Dhoni’s captaincy won its second championship in the cricket world cup. He also led India to No. 1 position in the ICC Rankings.

Dutee Chand won Gold in women’s 100m sprint at the World University Games

Indian sprinter Dutee Chand has won the gold medal in women’s 100-metre sprint at the 30th Summer University Games in Napoli, Italy becoming the first Indian to win do so. She clocked 11.32s in the final. The 23-year-old had qualified for the finals with a 11.41s finish in the semifinal heats and led the final race from start to finish on Tuesday. This is the first gold medal for India at this edition of the games. No Indian had qualified for the 100-metre final in the history of the University Games before this.

Fernando de La Rua, the former president of Argentina passed away

Fernando de La Rua, the former president of Argentina passed away in a Buenos Aires hospital, according to Argentine state news agency Telam. The 81-year-old had been hospitalized due to severe cardiac and kidney complications. De la Rua had been receiving treatment for several months after being hospitalized last January, according to Telam.

Sunil Chhetri has declared as the Men’s Footballer of the year at AIFF Awards

Indian men’s football team captain Sunil Chhetri and women’s footballer Ashalata Devi bagged the top honours at the All India Football Federation’s AIFF Awards on Tuesday. Chhetri was named the men’s footballer of the year, while the title in the women’s category was won by Devi.

Sharjah has granted its first golden visa to Lalu Samuel

Sharjah has granted its first golden visa – to Indian businessman Lalu Samuel. A long-time resident of the UAE, Mr Samuel is chairman of the Sharjah-based Kingston Group, one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of electrical products in the Middle East. He has lived in the Emirates for the past 37 years and Forbes Middle East named him one of the “top 100 most influential Indian business leaders in the Arab world” several times.

India is set to host the 14th Conference of the Parties (COP)

India is set to host the 14th Conference of the Parties (COP) from September 02 to 13, confirmed Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday. The global conference will be hosted at India Expo Mart Limited in Greater Noida. As many as 197 countries are expected to participate in the conference.

WHO(World Health Organisation) has declared Sri Lanka as ‘Measles-free’ nation

The World Health Organization (WHO) Wednesday said that Sri Lanka had successfully eliminated measles from the island country. The WHO praised Sri Lanka’s achievement in a statement at a time when measles cases were increasing globally. The WHO South-East Asia Regional Director Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh said Sri Lanka’s success demonstrated its commitment, the determination of its health workforce and parents to protect children against measles.

Arun Kumar has been appointed as the DG of DGCA

Arun Kumar, additional secretary in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, will now be holding the full-time charge of the head of aviation regulator DGCA. Kumar was heading the DGCA as an additional charge between May 31 and July 9 this year.  Kumar is an IAS officer of 1989 batch of Haryana cadre

Net cross-border infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir fell by 43 per cent

Net cross-border infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir fell by 43 per cent in the first half of 2019 as compared to the first half of 2018, while terrorist incidents in the state declined by 28% and local recruitment of militants by 40% in the corresponding period, the government informed the Lok Sabha.
