Rafael Nadal wins Montreal Masters title

Rafael Nadal wins in Montreal to win 35th Masters crown. He defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev by 6-3, 6-0. With the win, he also extended his record haul of Masters 1000 titles. Nadal has successfully defended a hard court title for the first time in his career.

He will receive 1,000 ATP Rankings points and $1,049,040 in prize money. Medvedev will receive $531,010 and 600 ATP Rankings points.

Dr. Vikram Sarabhai’s 100th Birth Anniversary, father of ISRO

The country is celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of scientist and innovator Dr Vikram A Sarabhai. He is considered as the father of India’s space program.

India’s second mission to the moon, Chadrayaan – 2 which consist of three part in which Lander is named ‘Vikram’ to honour the late Dr Vikram Sarabhai.

Lionel Messi Wins UEFA Goal of the Season Award 2018-19

Lionel Messi has been awarded UEFA’s Goal of the Season award for his free-kick against Liverpool at Camp Nou last season. The set-piece by Barcelona’s Argentine star from 30 yards out was his second goal of the match, reports Efe news agency. Cristiano Ronaldo was runners-up in the UEFA award for the goal he scored for Juventus against his former team Manchester United.

Private sector bank, RBL Bank and digital healthcare platform Practo have partnered to launch an industry-first co-branded health credit card. This credit card is powered by Mastercard.

RBL Bank’s new credit card offers benefits like online consultations with doctors and a free health check-up.

This card gives a unique ability to consumers to use their regular spends for subsidizing monthly health spends on Practo.

Vice President launches ‘Mukhya Mantri Krishi Ashirwad Yojana’ in Jharkhand

In a move to provide maximum benefits to more than 13 lakh farmers, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu visited Ranchi in Jharkhand on Saturday to inaugurate Mukhya Mantri Krishi Ashirwad Yojana (MMKAY).

The MMKAY scheme is a target set by the government to provide welfare and financial support to farmers in Jharkhand. Nearly Rs 442 crore has already been allocated to be directly transferred into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries in the first phase of the scheme.

Chandrima Shaha elected INSA’s first woman president

Former director of the National Institute of Immunology Chandrima Shaha has been elected as the first woman president of the reputed Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Shaha, who will head INSA from 2020, said after taking over as president, her priority would be to make efforts to further popularise science among the masses, and she would also focus on more collaborations with foreign institutes.

Kajin Sara Lake set to be world’s highest lake

Newly discovered Kajin Sara lake in Nepal is likely to set a new record of being the world’s highest lake. It is located at Singarkharka area of Chame rural municipality in Manang district of Nepal. It is called Singar locally. It was discovered about a few months ago by team of mountaineers.

Current world’s highest lake: Tilicho Lake, situated at an altitude of 4,919 metres in Nepal.  It is 4 km long, 1.2 km wide and around 200 metre.

12 August: International Youth Day

The International Youth Day is observed every year across world on 12 August to bring youth issues to attention of international community and celebrate the potential of youth as partners in today’s global society.

It seeks to highlight efforts to make education more accessible and inclusive for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.

Theme for this year is ‘Transforming education’.

Ultimate Table Tennis Title: Chennai Lions beats Dabang Delhi in final

Chennai Lions glided away to one-sided victory over Dabang Delhi in final to win Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) crown. Chennai Lions led by Sharath Kamal defeated Sathiyan-led Dabang Delhi with 8-1 in final to lift UTT Season 3 Trophy.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher’s autobiography titled “Lessons Life Taught Me, Unknowingly” was launched at a special event at Consulate General of India in New York. It was unveiled by Rishi Kapoor, along with wife Neetu Kapoor and cast of NBC’s show New Amsterdam. The book was released in India on 5 August and will be released in US on 15 October 2019.
