1.Discord (noun)

  • Meaning: Disagreement between people
  • Synonyms= Strife, conflict
  • Antonyms= Accord, harmony
  • Usage= There was discord amongst the members of the committee on how they should allot their funds.

2.Abominate (verb)

  • Meaning : To hate something very much
  • Synonyms= Abhor, despise
  • Antonyms= Admire, approve
  • Usage= My dogs abominate cold weather so I have to force them outside when the temperature goes below fifty degrees.

3.Disrupt (verb)

  • Meaning:  Interrupt ( an event, activity or process) by causing a disturbance or problem
  • Synonyms= Rattle, agitate
  • Antonyms= Appease, soothe
  • Usage= The quarrels of the different political parties seemed likely to disrupt the state.

4.Deprive (verb)

  • Meaning: Prevent (a person or place) from having or using something
  • Synonyms= Deny, strip
  • Antonyms= Provide, offer
  • Usage= We often deprive our students of the ability to apply their mathematics.

5.Ambiguity (noun)

  • Meaning:  The quality of being open to more than one interpretation
  • Synonyms= Obscurity, ambivalence
  • Antonyms= Certainty, transparency
  • Usage= The lawyer assured his client that the judge would clear up the legal ambiguity.

6.Illicit (adj)

  • Meaning: Forbidden by law, rules or custom
  • Synonyms= Illegal, unlawful
  • Antonyms= Legal, approved
  • Usage= The greedy company president did not hesitate to engage in illicit practices to increase the size of his annual bonus.

7.Outright (adj)

  • Meaning:  Wholly and completely
  • Synonyms= Entirely, totally
  • Antonyms= Partially, separately
  • Usage= His proposal was rejected outright .

8.Adjunct (noun)

  • Meaning: A thing added to something else as a supplementary rather than an essential part.
  • Synonyms: Addition, complement
  • Antonyms: Lessening, subtraction
  • Usage: Food technology is an adjunct to learning.

9.Covetous (adj)

  • Meaning: Having or showing a great desire to possess something belonging to someone else.
  • Synonyms: Greedy, insatiable
  • Antonyms: Magnanimous, generous
  • Usage: The truth is that because of the unbiased media today, these covetous politicians have been exposed.

10.Hazy (adj)

  • Meaning : vague or ill-defined.
  • Synonyms: Blurred, unclear
  • Antonyms: Clear, distinct
  • Usage: The summers were hazy with pollution.
