  1. ARBITRARY (Adjective)
    Meaning: based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system.
    Synonyms: whimsical, random, chance, erratic,
    Antonyms: rational, reasoned
    Example: In spite of the cold weather, we made an arbitrary trip to the beach. 
  2. INFLOW (Noun)
    Meaning: the movement of money or assets into a business, an economy, an industry, etc.
    Synonyms: incursion, inpouring
    Antonyms: retreat, outflow
    Usage: The government wanted an inflow of foreign investment. 
  3. SLACKEN (Verb)
    Meaning: make or become slack.
    Synonyms: loosen, relax
    Antonyms: tighten
    Usage: You really need to slacken the seatbelt before you choke yourself. 
  4. UPTICK (Noun)
    Meaning: an increase in something
    Synonyms: growth, rise
    Antonyms: decrease, fall
    Example: Loyal customers weren’t upset with the uptick in prices since hamburgers only went up ten cents in price. 
  5. WOO (Verb)
    Meaning: to gain the love or affection of someone; seek the favor, support, or custom of.
    Synonyms: chase, pursue, ingratiate,
    Antonyms: deter, affront, repulse, reject.
    Usage: Flowers and dinner aren’t enough to woo the hard-to-please woman, so her suiter had to come up with other ways to win her heart. 
  6. FETTER (Verb)
    Meaning: confine or restrict (someone).
    Synonyms: restrict, restrain, constrain, confine, limit
    Antonyms: aid, allow, assist, expedite
    Example: Whenever the man took his dog outside, he would place a fetter around the animal’s neck and tie it to a tree. 
  7. HONE (Verb)
    Meaning: to perfect a talent or skill; to make sharp or sharper.
    Synonyms: edge, grind, sharpen, stone
    Antonyms: blunt, dull
    Example: The tennis player practices several hours a day to hone her skills. 
  8. ARTIFICE (Noun)
    Meaning: clever or cunning devices or expedients, especially as used to trick or deceive others.
    Synonyms: deceit, deception, guile, trickery
    Antonyms: honesty, openness
    Example: I was pleased when the car salesman did not use an artifice to try and get me to purchase a defective vehicle. 
  9. FOSTER (Verb)
    Meaning: encourage the development of (something, especially something desirable).
    Synonyms: nurture, support
    Antonyms: neglect, ignore
    Usage: The professor hoped to foster a genuine interest in his students to pursue research. 
  10. PERSISTENT (Adjective)
    Meaning: continuing firmly or obstinately in an opinion or course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.
    Synonyms: persevering, tenacious, determined, Antonyms: inconstant, irresolute
    Usage: Because Jaya has a persistent respiratory infection, she has been on antibiotics for several months. 
  11. IDIOMS“Pie in the sky”

    FOOD IDIOM
    Meaning: Something that is unrealistic or that cannot be achieved
    Example: He keeps talking about how he’ll move to Mumbai to be a famous actor, but it’s just pie in the sky if you ask me.
     

    “Piping Hot”
    FOOD IDIOM
    Meaning: Very hot (generally said of food)
    Example:
    Nothing tastes better than fresh cinnamon rolls, served piping hot.“Pour (Rub) Salt into (on) the Wound (an open wound)”
    Food Idiom
    Meaning: Worsen an insult or injury; make a bad situation worse for someone
    Example: Breaking up with Rahul was bad enough, but seeing him out with Neha just poured salt into an open wound.
