1. glisten (verb) – चमकना
Pronunciation: gli-sun
Meaning: (of something wet or greasy) shine with a sparkling light
Synonyms: shine, sparkle, twinkle, glint, glitter, shimmer, glow
Usage: Darcy’s face was white and glistening with sweat.

2. sever (verb) – काटकर अलग करना
Pronunciation: se-ver
Meaning: divide by cutting or slicing, especially suddenly and forcibly; put an end to (a connection or relationship)
Synonyms: cut off, cleave, split, break off, discontinue
Antonyms: join, attach, maintain, establish, initiate
Usage: The head was severed from the body.

3. beset (verb) – घेर लेना
Pronunciation: bi-set
Meaning: (of a problem or difficulty) trouble (someone or something) constantly; surround and harass; be covered or studded with
Synonyms: plague, bedevil, attack, assail, surround, besiege
Usage:

  • The social problems that beset the UK.
  • I was beset by clouds of flies.

4. entitlement (noun) – पात्रता, हकदारी
Pronunciation: in-tai-t(u)l-munt
Meaning: the fact of having a right to something; the belief that one inherently deserves privileges or special treatment
Synonyms: right, prerogative, claim, title, licence, permission, dispensation,, privilege, liberty
Usage: The spoiled girl’s sense of entitlement to any object in sight resulted in her inability to make friends.

5. shabby (adjective) – जर्जर, मैला कुचैला
Pronunciation: sha-bi
Meaning: in poor condition through long use or lack of care; dressed in old or worn clothes; (of behaviour) mean and unfair
Synonyms: scruffy, neglected, dilapidated, contemptible, despicable, disreputable, discreditable
Antonyms: smart, new, decent, honourable
Usage: He wore a shabby old overcoat.

6. subjugate (verb) – अधीन या वश में करना
Pronunciation: sub-ju-geit
Meaning: bring under domination or control, especially by conquest
Synonyms: conquer, vanquish, defeat, crush, quell, quash, overcome, overpower
Antonym: liberate
Usage: Is your goal to take away our freedom and subjugate us by military force?

7. counsellor (noun) – परामर्शदाता, सलाहकार
Pronunciation: kaun-s(u)lur
Meaning: a person trained to give guidance on personal or psychological problems; a person who gives advice on a specified subject; a senior officer in the diplomatic service
Synonyms: adviser, consultant, guide, mentor, confidant, confidante

Pronunciation: provi-den-shul
Meaning: occurring at a favourable time; involving divine ability to predict what will happen or be needed in the future
Synonyms: opportune, advantageous, favourable, auspicious, propitious; divine, heaven-sent, miraculous
Antonyms: inopportune
Usage: A providential wind carried the raft to the shore.

9. impeach (verb) – संदेह करना, दोषी ठहराना
Pronunciation: im-peech
Meaning: call into question the integrity or validity of (a practice); charge (the holder of a public office) with misconduct
Synonyms: challenge, question; indict, charge, accuse
Antonyms: confirm, acquit
Usage: After discovering that her employee was stealing, she went on to formally impeach the man.

Meaning: hold the complete attention of (someone) as though by magic
